Julius H. Zimmerman
ca. 1900
|
If
this remarkable instrument could talk, it would have quite a
tale to tell. We were contacted a couple of years ago by a gentleman in Russia
who had found the instrument in St. Petersburg and offered it
to us. Our research determined it was built in Hamburg in 1908
and delivered new to Julius Heinrich Zimmermann in St. Petersburg.
Mr. Zimmermann was a well known maker of woodwind instruments
and violins in Russia at the turn of the century. This piano
went through the Russian Revolution, two World Wars, and
the Cold War years but miraculously it survived. We have just completed an exhaustive restoration including polished ebony finish, Stanwood system action and brand new ivory keys. This piano is in perfect new condition. It has the beautiful clear sound which is unique to the German built Steinways and the perfectly balanced action makes it a joy to play. Size 6ft. 11in. Serial no. 133124.
