1914 Mason & Hamlin Model A - Circassian Walnut

This remarkable piano has a case of Circassian Walnut, a striking wood rarely used after 1917 when the Russian Revolution ended worldwide access to the region where the wood is found. It has a beautiful swirling multicolord grain pattern unique among hardwoods. In 30 years we have owned only one other piano (a Steinway) in this exotic wood. We first acquired this piano over 20 years ago, from the estate of its original owner. Her parents had purchased it for her at the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, and we still have a photograph of her as a young girl playing the piano at the fair. We sold the piano in 1990 and its owners have taken meticulous care of it. Changes in their life have led them to return the piano to us and so we offer it for sale for the second time in its 97 year history. Amazingly the piano is unrestored but in nearly perfect condition, including the original ivory keys and the original finish which is absolutely stunning. Size 5ft. 8in. Serial number 22665.
