One of the rarest and most desireable of the handmade Yamaha S series. Maufactured in very small numbers in the early 1990s, the S700E "small concert grand" was sold originally only in Europe and Japan. In 1995 Yamaha selected five of these instruments to be sent to the US, and these are the only S700E pianos that ever came to this country. Piedmont Piano Company purchased three of the instruments, and the fourth was loaned by Yamaha to Michael Tilson Thomas, the conducter and Music Director of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. That piano remains in his home today. The three in our inventory were quickly sold but this, the first one sold, has returned to us as the original buyers have moved to London and asked us to find it a new home.
Those familiar with the S series Yamaha grands know they are constructed completely by hand in a special factory, by Yamaha's most senior piano builders. The S700E models were painstakingly regulated and voiced for concert work, and all were accordingly assigned serial numbers ending in 00. This piano has a magnificent sound and exceptional action. The only such model available in the US, it will satisfy the most particular pianist. Length 7ft. 8in. Serial number 5130900.
