The folks at Steinway & Sons don't make pianos like they used to back in the "golden age" but they certainly are smart. In the 1990s they came up with the idea of buying inexpensive pianos in Japan and China, designating them "designed by Steinway" and then selling them through their Steinway dealers at much higher prices than they would cost with their real manufacturers' names on them (Kawai in the case of this piano.) It was a brilliant marketing scheme; the pianos have sold very well and helped Steinway make lots of money. The original buyer of this piano paid $6000 for it in 1999, at a time when a similar Kawai or Yamaha would have been under $4000. We took it on trade almost three years ago and we can't get rid of it - so much for resale value. During the same three years we've sold dozens of used Kawais and Yamahas. There's nothing wrong with this piano - it plays and sounds excellent, just as we would expect from any Kawai. We're tired of looking at it - somebody please make us an offer! Height
45in. Serial number B130846.
SOLD - FINALLY!
