MaryClare
Brzytwa
MaryClare Brzytwa is a flutist/composer/teacher
currently living in Oakland Ca. Her work explores the microtonal
sound structure of the flute and other wind objects and concentrates
on extending technique though, electronics, and vocalization. As
a teacher, Mary Clare's focus is to instill the fundamentals of
music and playing through extended techniques and improvisation
as well as traditional methods of solfege, rhythm training, and
notation. Ms. Brzytwa specializes in preschool musical development
by utilizing a multi instrumental approach to musical exploration
and preparation. Most important to her teaching is fostering a sense
of confidence and creative freedom in students of all ages. In addition
to her Music Composition BA studies at Mills College, MaryClare
also had 4 years of Psychology study at Cleveland State University.
During the summer of 2005 MaryClare, presented her composition "Maxy
Waxy" for laptop and flute at the Pantasmagoria 2005 Flute
Festival in Buffalo New York, performed with guitarist Antoine Berthiaume
at SHARE in New York City, and toured Japan with her trio "Slow
Children" (Shayna Dunkleman/ percussion, Kanoko Nishi/Koto.) Miss
Brzytwa has been the recipient of the 2005 Mills College UROP grant,
Donner Music Scholarship, Hellman Award for lessons. Miss Brzytwa
has studied improvisation with Joelle Leandre, Composition with
Fred Frith; flute with Michelle Ciamotto, Steve Adams of the Rova
Saxophone Quartet, and Angela Korogolos and Robert Dick. She has
also studied voice and piano with Molly Holm.
Steve
Parker
Clarinet,
Flute, Oboe, Saxophone
Steve Parker is a professional musician freelancing in the San Francisco
Bay Area. He has played with professional name acts like Natalie
Cole, Tony Bennett, and Johnny Mathis, in national tour shows such
as Cats, Les Miserables, and Phantom of the Opera, and with the
Oakland and San Francisco Symphonies. Mr. Parker began playing flute,
clarinet, and saxophone 25 years ago and majored in oboe at Cal
State Hayward.
