Our teachers who teach one-on-one private lessons are private contractors. We refer students to them, and they rent teaching space from us. They all manage their own rates and schedules.

GUITAR TEACHERS

Terrence Brewer Jazz Guitarist, Composer, Arranger, and Musical Director, resides in Alameda, California.  Brewer’s aggressive marketing and business acumen aided him in leading his own groups in nearly 2000 shows throughout California in the last years 7 years.  In addition to this impressive feat, Brewer possesses the rich experience of performing and sharing the stage with legendary artists such as Michael McDonald (the Doobie Brothers), Mary Wilson (The Supremes), Gerald Albright, Melba Moore, Darlene Love, Dr. Anthony Brown (and the Asian American Orchestra), Pete Escovedo, Babatunde Lea, Kim Nalley, Dave Ellis, Calvin Keyes, Bruce Forman, Scott Amendola, Tuck and Patti, Khalil Shaheed, Ed Kelly, Herb Gibson, and many others.  In addition to performing with great artists, Brewer’s fate led him to study with musical greats such as Charlie Hunter, Duck Baker, and Mark Levine. email him at terrence@terrencebrewer.com

Anthony Michael Peterson AKA Tru, at thirteen, received a classical guitar scholarship to the St. Louis Conservatory of Music, where he studied with classical guitar teachers Michael Cedric Smith and Rodney Stuckey and Aaron Shearer. At fourteen, he began teaching privately. He attended the Berklee College of Music and became one of the youngest faculty members of the college. He later worked with Peter Gabriel, Marcus Miller, Joan Baez, Cassandra Wilson, and saxophonist Oliver Lake and recorded his solo debut CD, "The Book of Days" for Gazelle Records. Anthony also became a member of The Black Rock Coalition, which resulted in his long standing association with Living Color band leader and guitarist Vernon Reid. Anthony is also passionately interested in developing musical learning techniques for students of all levels of ability. He has developed an intuitional band concept for children and adults called "I Dare You to Make Music!" Darryl Berk Guitarist/vocalist/music educator and facilitator, Darryl Berk has been an integral part of the music scene for many years. A Cleveland, Ohio native, Darryl began studying guitar atage 12, with the innovative and legendary jazz guitarist, BillDeArango. This provided both the solid foundation necessary for Darryl to begin gigging throughout Northeastern Ohio, and continue his ongoing association with Bill until his passing in December of 2005.While continuing to perform regularly, he recognized the need to pursue a more formal musical education. Noted composer and arranger for Stan Kenton, Phil Rizzo provided a rigorous study of theory and harmony, which led to Darryl being awarded a grant to study at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music. Upon graduation he moved to New York City, where he found himself in high demand, performing up to 250 gigs a year. His uncanny ability to move effortlessly between musical styles such as Jazz, Blues, Rock 'n Roll and Country has afforded him the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of George Benson, Alabama, The Shirelles, The Tokens, Randy Travis, The Drifters, The Four Tops, The Judds, Darlene Love and George Strait, playing notable venues such as Madison Square Garden, The Lonestar Café, The Felt Forum, and The Bottom Line. While in New York, Darryl also became involved in the world of voiceovers and commercial production. His voice can be heard on spots for Diet Coke, Nikon, and Volvo, and he is currently the voice of Amazing eLearning's software training programs. His skills and abilities as a guitarist and vocalist have also contributed to his success as an educator and facilitator. Kyle Blase received his music degree from San Francisco State University in 1999 where he studied with a most fabulous array of teachers Dee Spencer, Hafez Modirzadeh, Molly Holm, Wayne Wallace and Carlos Sanchez Guiterrez and continued his studies towards a Masters at Humboldt State University in Education.  He has over 16 years teaching experience and over 10 years specializing in pre-school and kindergarten aged children.  A five year old at heart Kyle always treats children with respect and dignity while having so much fun doing it. He has studied voice and performancefrom greats like Sheila Jordan, Faye Carol, Kellye Grey, Madeline Eastman, Christine Guter and Terrance Kelly... He has sang as a Tenor, Alto or Baritone with SFSU's Jazz Choir with Molly Holm, Mad River Transit Jazz Vocal Ensemble at Humboldt State with Harley Mullienberg, JCW Vocal Ensemble with a Christine Guter, The Oakland Jazz Choir under the directorship of Walter Bankovitch and Katie Koeplin and as a band leader. As a Guitar and Ukulele player he has studied primarily with TRU Born (AKA Anthony Michael Peterson) and has recently discovered the Cuban Tres and has been working feverishly on his chops. Kyle have been blessed to be able to share the stage with amazing musicians like Benny Green, Kellye Gray, Omar Sosa, John Calloway, Shao Way Wu, Suzy Laraine, Brian Post, Geoff Brennan, Jeff Marrs, Victoria Theodore, Dana Stevens, Walter Bankovitch, Tim Bulkley, Josh Jones, Gillian Harwin...
