Piedmont Piano Company manager Norman Landsberg has been part of the Bay Area music scene for many years. Though trained in classical piano, he was able to draw upon the cultural diversity of his native New York City to develop a familiarity with a wide range of musical tastes and styles. His professional career started as one of the founding members of the rock group Mountain, featuring guitarist Leslie West. (Samples from songs Norman co-wrote as a member of Mountain have found a new life in current hits by such artists as Jay-Z and Kanye West, winding up in films like "Barbershop" and "The Taking of Pelham 123”).
He first came to the Bay Area with his group “Hammer” to record an album for Bill Graham’s San Francisco Records, and subsequently moved here permanently, becoming vocal arranger and music director for the Pointer Sisters, touring extensively and making numerous television appearances with them. He went on to work with a variety of artists such as pop singer Lenny Williams (known for his work with Tower of Power). Norman’s arranging skills and studio savvy have helped to establish him as an independent producer who, along with his wife, keyboardist Socorro de Castro-Landsberg, runs Landsberg Music Productions, a full service music production company providing music direction and arrangements from custom “minus-ones” to full album production, live performance, as well as scoring for commercials and films such as Ramona S. Diaz’ award-winning documentary, “Spirits Rising”.
When not working at the store or in the studio, Norman is part of the pop piano-duo team of Landsberg & Yount, frequently performing with their quartet and as guest soloists at symphony pops concerts with both major and regional orchestras around the U.S. They have the distinction of being one of the first artists to be asked to participate in the prestigious Yamaha Concert and Artist program, performing exclusively on Yamaha concert grands at all their engagements.
At the age of fifteen, Terrence Brewer knew he wanted to be a professional musician, so upon graduating from high school in 1993, he
continued his musical education at Los Medanos College (LMC), also in Pittsburg, CA. It was while studying at LMC that
Brewer transitioned from a woodwind performance major to a guitar performance major studying classical and jazz guitar
performance. Brewer finished his Associate Arts degree at LMC in 1997. While at Los Medanos he studied with famed
Bay Area guitarist Mike Williams, New York jazz maestro Mike Zilber, and acclaimed classical guitarist Tom Pattitucci.
After leaving Los Medanos, Brewer continued his musical education by studying with the likes of Charlie Hunter, Duck
Baker, and Mark Levine.
Brewer has an extensive resume when it comes to jazz education. He has participated in various workshops and
performances hosted by Stanford Jazz Workshop. SFJAZZ also called upon Brewer to lecture and perform as a part of
their popular and prestigious “Discover Jazz” lecture series. Brewer has also taught
workshops, master classes, and given lectures for Santa Rosa Junior College, Los Medanos Community College,
Albany High School, Pittsburg High School, KIPP Charter school, Prospect Sierra Middle School, Martin Luther King Middle School,
Rockridge Montessori, and many others.
With years of music education under his belt, Brewer firmly established himself in the Bay Area music scene, leading his
own groups in nearly 2000 shows throughout California in the last 7 years. His list of performances at fine venues
and with even finer musicians is impressive. He's entertained sold out crowds while headlining shows at the world famous
Yoshi’s at Jack London Square, The Berkeley Jazz School, Anna’s Jazz Island, Jazz at Pearl's and received
standing ovations at the Jazz on the River, SFJazz Festival Summerfest Concert Series, Sonoma Jazz, Fillmore
Jazz, Montclair Jazz, and the Marin Jazz Festivals.
