Sharmila G. Lash is a multifaceted vocalist able to easily move through a variety of musical styles. She performs as a soloist and ensemble member in both jazz and classical settings, is a private voice instructor, and works as a session singer. She is a current member of the Los Angeles Master Chorale and San Francisco-based Volti, and she is the alto in the Los Angeles-based vocal jazz quartet True North. Sharmila began her music studies at a very young age, starting piano lessons at age six and singing lessons at age eleven. She was a music student at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and continued on to study classical voice at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she discovered her passion for jazz. Although she enjoys singing "the standards," her debut solo album If Music Be the Food of Love showcases her affinity for exploring songs that stray from the usual jazz repertoire, like the title track by Baroque composer Henry Purcell, a song by the alternative rock band The Cure, and a Bengali folk song. As a pianist, composer, bandleader, and accompanist, Anne Sajdera is a creative force whose music encompasses an unusually far-flung array of traditions. With musical roots spanning the globe, she melds American and Brazilian jazz to her training in European and Hindustani classical music, creating an utterly personal sound that’s melodically verdant, harmonically sophisticated and rhythmically compelling. A graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, pianist/composer Anne Sajdera received a B.Mu. in Composition. She performs regularly in the Bay Area - as leader of her own ensembles and performing with other artists such as Alexa Weber Morales, Sandy Cressman and Terrence Brewer. Her outstanding debut Azul (JAZZIZ Magazine 2012 Top Ten Critic's Poll, Latin Jazz Corner's Great Latin Jazz Albums from 2012, number 5 for best new talent 2012 Jazz Station blog), released by her label (Bijuri Records) and co-produced by Ray Obiedo, highlights her exquisite touch, rhythmic acuity, and melodic resourcefulness. Sajdera is currently working on her next release. For more details, visit annesajdera.com.
