Tory Teasley is a vocalist and entertainer from Oakland, California. An Oakland native, Teasley began singing in church, and later received classical and jazz vocal training. Described as a soulful vocalist, Teasley has taken over stages all over the Bay Area. Regardless of her role and evolution in the arts, Teasley strives to uphold the message of no limits when it comes to creative expression and to practice radical love and acceptance.
From an early age, it was clear that Tory Teasley was a born musician. She started playing the violin and cello before entering elementary school and was acting by age seven. She regularly sang at her church during adolescence, which eventually led her to the Berkeley Jazz School, where she studied classical music.
At age 10, she had her first paid gig traveling with Opera Picallo for four years. She also studied under the tutelage of neo-soul phenomenon, Ledisi, and world-renowned jazz musician, Raz, between the ages of 13 and 18. By this time, Teasley had incorporated dancing and stage performance in musicals and dramas into her repertoire. In 2009, she sang at Carnegie Hall Mozarts Requiem directed by John Rutter.
In 2010, Teasley took a break from music to return to school and pursue a career in Massage Therapy. While there she met Wanda Ravernell and accepted her invitation to sing in Awon Ohun Omnira. There, she served as a principal vocalist for the ancestor songs and the ring-shout. When AOO added Civil Rights-era Freedom songs to its repertoire, Teasley was the principal vocalist.
Guided by revelation, Teasley sacrificed everything everything in order to focus 100% on her career in music and entertainment. Currently, Teasley is a full-time performing artist, and has recently performed artist-in-residence engagements with Penrose (Oakland), DayBreaker (SF), Legionnaire Saloon (Oakland), 57th Street Gallery and Barndiva, among other venues. On June 20, 2018, Teasley and her band, Tory and the Teasers, released their first album, "Free Tory", which is available on most streaming and downloading platforms (such as Spotify and iTunes). In addition, Teasley provides music for special events, weddings, private parties, funerals, and concerts.
